We are having occasional trouble with Word's spell checker when working on reports in our office. From time to time we will notice that spell check doesn't catch any errors on a specific page or paragraph. We can copy and paste the paragraph to other pages in the report and spell check still won't recognize errors, but the paragraph before and after will, and format painting from a good paragraph to a bad one makes no difference.

We copy and paste from different sources very frequently and only run into this on occasion, which makes it especially dangerous because, as time passes, we become more lax in watching for these errors.

The ambiguous state not checked and not clear indicates that the selected text has mixed settings that's true of all check boxes in Word.

Details required :. Cancel Submit. I had the same problem. It turns out the "style" I wrking using somehow got set to "do not check spelling". The styles are listed on the right-hand side of the Home ribbon; the one you are currently using will highlight it's probably the one called "Normal".
